Tommy Gross, PGA Head Golf Professional at Blue Springs Country Club, was elected as a PGA member in June of 2005. Tommy has served as an Assistant Golf Professional at Leawood South Country Club and Lakewood Oaks Golf Club. He soon became Head Golf Professional at Lakewood Oaks. Later, he assumed the role of Head Golf Professional at Brookridge Golf and Fitness. While at both clubs Tommy, developed a passion to teach the student the game and its fundamentals, while pointing-out how its values can be similar to those in life.

With each of these assignments he became instrumental in helping develop and maintain vibrant and healthy junior golf programs while continuing to enhance the respect of those in the industry for his skills at delivering golf instruction. Tommy is well known for his work ethic and his deep commitment to the success of his employer, his clients and students.

Through the years Tommy has developed his own style of teaching. His teaching philosophy is simple: Teach the student to be able to reach their individual golf potential by leveraging the physical capabilities he or she possesses. Tommy believes that changing a swing to match “the book” mechanics is inappropriate for all golfers. Rather, he capitalizes on the individual’s style and strengths to bring out the best in each person’s technique he tutors. Tommy also believes improving short game techniques and practicing from 100 yards and closer will always be most critical to improving a student’s overall game.

Tommy has been the Varsity Golf Coach at Summit Christian Academy in Lee’s Summit for the past 14 years. His accomplishments include two state titles, all-state golfer awards, district championships, and numerous tournament victories. These accomplishments consistently display the golf/life lessons that he has been able to instill in the lives of the young men and women he has supported.

Tommy is a Texas native and met his wife, Lynette, while in college at Springfield, MO. Having been married for 27 years, Tommy and Lynette have two wonderful children. His son, Parker is now 26 and lives in Washington, IL, and daughter Casie now 24, and lives in Independence, MO. Tommy, who has a servant’s heart, will always be there to help. He developed a motto several years ago and believes in it. The life lessons that can be learned from such an exciting game, and can be applied to our daily living, or more simply put, “life is golf and golf is life.”

Next time you are out at the course tell Tommy hello, and if you by chance you need some help or instruction with your game, whether be course management, putting, or the swing itself, I am sure that Tommy will be more than happy to set up a time to get the issue resolved.
